Jennifer + Brian

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 1.jpg

I am so honored to finally share this wedding with everyone. Meet Jennifer & Brian. These two mean so much to me, but specifically, Jennifer (I’ll get to how awesome Brian is in a minute, just hold your horses while I go on and brag about my friend Jen first). Do you ever have that rare friend that comes in to your life and you just know that no matter how far away you are from one another, “we’ll be friends forever & pick up right where we left off” type of friend? That is Jennifer. The type of friend you don’t have to hold back with or feel judged by? That is Jennifer.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 2.jpg

We have been friends since college & we’ve been there for each other through a lot of life’s chapters. School. Breakups. Confusion. Real Life stuff y’all. She’s a confidant - the type of friend you can count on to vent to without fear of being judged & you just know she is actually listening. I love that about her.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 4.jpg

Not only that, but she also gives advice after listening to whatever it is you’re dealing with, especially during emotionally and relational hard times that life often seemed to present in our early 20’s. I love that about her.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 3.jpg

She’s fun - the type of friend that will blare the music with you while driving and scream the lyrics with the windows down because you are over ‘talking about it’. I love that about her.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 6.jpg

She’s a planner & a ‘momma bear’ - the type of friend that will do a headcount of all the girls in our group before we leave any place we are at to make sure no one is left out. I love that about her.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 9.jpg

She’s courageous - the type of woman who is willing to take risks for the sake of doing something she is passionate about even without knowing all the answers for ‘how’ it will work out. I love that about her.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 10.jpg

She’s a truth teller - the friend who sees a situation for what it is and isn’t afraid to tell you the truth even if it hurts. I love that about her.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 7.jpg

Jennifer and I have so many amazing memories together, one that included a shot of moonshine & me almost accidentally cut our toes off swinging an axe on the beach. It took a few seconds to be funny, but that is just one story we share together out of many… The point is, she is the type of friend who will cry with you, laugh with you, have a drink with you, dance with you & be real with you all in the same weekend. I love that about her. She’s the type of friend that restores your soul instead of depleting your energy after spending time together. I love that about her. Truth is, one of my life’s greatest blessings is finding a true friend in Jennifer.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 8.jpg

When she told me she had met this guy named Brian, of course I was hesitant as only a good friend would naturally be. After all, I thought, he better be one hell of a guy to be worthy of dating my friend Jennifer. As time went on, I could tell by how she would describe Brian that she was smitten because her voice would go up an octave & her face would light up every time she talked about him. After hearing so much about this guy, I knew it was time to meet him.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 11.jpg

My husband and I remember meeting Brian & having our skepticism slowly turn in to entertainment. He knew so much about different world cultures, which we are also very interested in. He told us about his travels and shared with us that his family was actually from Chile. He was so proud to share a favorite Chilean dish of his with the crowd called ‘Pastel de Choclo’ & even introduced us to the national drink of Chile - a Pisco Sour (which was delicious!) He was the life of the party & seemed to have such an infectious enthusiasm for life - just like Jennifer. I remember looking over at Jennifer throughout the night & seeing her staring at Brian with adoring eyes. I thought to myself “she looks so happy; this might be her forever man; I sure hope he knows what he has.” Sure enough, he did know what he had and as their love grew, so did the memories they created together.

Jennifer & Brian were traveling to North Carolina for the holidays in 2017 & they went to see the Biltmore, which was the luxurious family home of George and Edith Vanderbilt more than a century ago. It was on a cold New Year’s Eve night inside of the gorgeous Biltmore gardens in front of the lit up trees that he asked Jennifer to become his wife. She said yes & he had surprised her with friends & family who had traveled there to ring in the New Year in celebration that night!

When I found out about the proposal, I was overcome with joy for the two because I knew that they would make such a great pair for the long haul & I knew that my friend had found her forever match! I was thrilled when she asked me to be their photographer & also a bridesmaid! Yes, you read that right - I was in the wedding as a bridesmaid & I was also the photographer for their big day! Special thanks to my wonderful husband for capturing the bridal party photos with me in the group. As we planned their Engagement session, Brian brought up his love of botanical gardens & the San Antonio Botanical Gardens immediately came to mind. We photographed their Engagement session at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens & The Pearl in San Antonio. I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude being able to capture such an chapter of Jennifer’s life marrying the man of her dreams.

On their wedding day, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. Growing up, my dad was a pilot and an Instructor pilot in the United States Air Force.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 21.jpg

Growing up with a dad in the military, we moved around a bit in my younger years from Mississippi (Columbus AFB) to California (Travis AFB) to Texas (Randolph AFB). My dad had flown a number of airplanes including the C5, T37, T38, T6 & T1. My dad, Lt.Col Steve Lyon was an instructor pilot for the T6 for many many years while we lived in San Antonio growing up and get this - Brian & a few of his friends are T6 pilots!

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 26.jpg
Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 24.jpg

That is why this wedding was nostalgic for me - and not only that, but get this! The entire Bridal Party went back to the exact same squadron my dad spent several years instructing pilots in, which is also happened to be one of the squadrons they land at constantly. It was surreal.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 28.1.jpg

Also, we all took a 5 minute pit stop in the squadron’s break room, which I had been visiting since I was in middle school. I saw my dad’s name badge on the wall & I immediately thought of all the times my mom took us up to visit him & bring him lunch during his work day. I didn’t think I would ever see that place again, but it really sort of a small reminder of how we are all connected in some way.

As we arrived to the Southwest School of Art, where the reception was held, every table was already set, every candle was lit & every centerpiece was perfectly situated. The night was ready to celebrate Jennifer & Brian & the scene was utterly stunning.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 34.jpg
Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 27.jpg

The night was definitely one to remember with hilarious speeches from both the best man and the matron of honor. Brian cut their wedding cake with the traditional sword, which everyone was entertained by. Shout out to Caroline Taylor for baking their gorgeous wedding cake!

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 30.jpg

I would be lying if I said I kept it together for the three ‘First dances’. I was so happy for my friend getting married and seeing the joy on her face as they danced across the dance floor so effortlessly. I could tell her dad Steve had a hard time keeping the tears back as well as he danced with his little girl who had grown up to be a woman. I could see the joy in his eyes as he knew he was giving her away to Brian. I loved the way Brian danced with his mother also - just a joy about them that truly showed their special bond. For a few minutes, all eyes were on the dance floor and time stood still.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 31.jpg

The O’Connor family brought a hilarious tradition to the big day - it is a tradition where they re-gift this *gorgeous* painting each time someone in the family gets married. Throughout the years, each new couple is asked to give the painting a name and to write it on the back of the canvas along with their names & the year they were married. As Brian’s brother introduced this tradition in front of the guests, laughter began to overtake the crowd and the painting was happily accepted. This was a highlight of the reception.

Everyone celebrated the newlyweds and danced for hours! The dance floor was packed! They ended their night in true fairy tale fashion as they were whisked away by horse & carriage.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 33.jpg

Truth is, I have been putting off writing this post because I knew it was going to be emotional for me to write. I knew it would take me several days & several hours of putting my thoughts together to truly do this wedding justice and express how I really feel. I am beyond excited that Jennifer has found her forever man & I feel reassured that she chose such a good man to do life with. I am so glad I could share my side of the story with the world. I’ve learned while writing this post and while we are advised to stay inside during this Coronavirus situation, I have come to realize that this is life’s way of telling me to take extra time to do the things that matter. I am so glad I could share this special wedding with y’all, cheers to Jennifer & Brian.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding Collage 35.jpg

Jennifer & Brian,

Thank you for being you. Thank you for being such great friends and for trusting us to photograph the big day. It truly was an honor to be both a bridesmaid & your wedding photographer. Zach & I look forward to many more years of creating memories together - no matter how many states away the military takes y’all! When marriage gets hard, I hope you can look back on this day. I hope you look back on this day & remember the love you have for one another and all the reasons you made this commitment come flooding back to you. May you have a lifetime full of adventure & you both stay interested in all of what life has to offer…together as you walk hand in hand during this next chapter of your lives. I wish you both the very best wherever that may take you. Just know you’ll always have a friend in Zach & whenever you’re back in Texas - let’s plan a lake weekend! We love you both.

Sincerely & with gratitude,

Lyndsay & Zach

Sheldon & Whitney’s colorful Camp Lucy Wedding

Camp Lucy Wedding - 16.jpg

Whitney & Sheldon are the type of people who feel like family. They both have such a genuine smile that is so welcoming & friendly. Their wedding day embodied this friendly & loving feeling and everyone who attended seemed to have such an ease about them while celebrating the newlyweds.

Camp Lucy Wedding - 1.jpg

Camp Lucy Wedding - 5.jpg

As fate would have it, these two met almost 6 and a half years ago at the hospital and have since built a strong relationship together. After a few years of dating, they decided to build a lake house together in Tyler, Texas and have made many amazing memories as a couple.

Camp Lucy Wedding - 3.jpg
Camp Lucy Wedding - 2.jpg
Camp Lucy Wedding - 21.jpg

One night, after they had finished eating dinner, they decided to go outside on the back patio of their new home to watch the sunset. That is where Sheldon asked Whitney to be his wife & his partner for life. She said yes & the planning began. Everything they had built together brought them to this special day where they were joined as one.

On the day of the wedding, everything came together so beautifully & it was such a pleasure working together with so many great vendors. I always love working with Lola Beauty because not only are they easy to work with, but the hair & makeup stay put the entire night!

Working with Amy from Avenue Q Events was such a pleasure - she kept everything running smoothly throughout the entire day so that Whitney & Sheldon were stress free and able to truly enjoy their wedding day! I love working alongside coordinators who stick to a schedule because it allows time for each part of the day to have its own special moment and to me, that’s what creates the most memorable experience - many small moments that create an entire day that no one will ever forget.

Take the bride & groom’s ‘First Look’ for example. As soon as Whitney finished putting on her wedding dress, perfume & jewelry, she walked out to her groom for him to see her for the very first time on their wedding day. It was nothing short of magical. For just a short but intimate time, they had their own private moment to be with one another without anyone around & to see each other before the ceremony. Whitney was smiling from ear to ear as Sheldon turned around and saw his bride for the first time - he was jokingly ‘bowing’ to her and as joyful as can be. I may have teared up behind the camera.

Camp Lucy Wedding - 14.jpg
Camp Lucy Wedding - 15.jpg

These snippets of time seem to happen so fast when they are happening in the moment, but looking back, they are in fact the moments that have so much meaning & create a truly magical experience. I live for these small moments. The moments that take your breath away and these moments add up to one meaningful purpose - Love. These small, but significant moments are really the big moments that bind the entire day together. These moments are the sole reason why I love what I do. This is what I call “the good stuff”. This day was filled with small, but special moments- all ingredients that create a memorable experience that is never forgotten.

Camp Lucy Wedding - 17.jpg

Camp Lucy Wedding - 19.jpg

Another one of these moments happened when Whitney told me that more of her bridesmaids were pregnant than not & the pregnant bridesmaids proceeded to show me their baby bumps. We did an impromptu photo of the pregnant bridesmaids all together in a group & team #notpregnant with Whitney. The amount of love that supported Whitney & Sheldon throughout the entire day was so evident.

Camp Lucy Wedding - 20.jpg
Camp Lucy Wedding - 22.jpg
Camp Lucy Wedding - 23.jpg

I remember Whitney’s dad telling me about how he had been recovering from knee surgery, but he was eager to walk with her. He was so full of joy when he saw his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time. He knew he was about to walk his daughter down the aisle & that was truly a precious moment between the two of them. He was so proud to be by her side on his daughter’s wedding day. Just before they walked, they rang the church bell together. As they walked, everyone could see how Sheldon looked at Whitney - he was in awe of his bride walking towards him.

Camp Lucy Wedding - 24.jpg

They recited their vows & after they sealed the deal with a kiss, Sheldon stomped on glass. I learned that the tradition comes from Jewish roots & the fragility of glass suggests the fragile nature of human relationships. Since even the strongest love is subject to disintegration, as I understand it, the glass is broken as a kind of incantation: “As this glass shatters, so may our marriage never break.” What a beautiful reminder that a relationship takes work - work I believe Whitney & Sheldon will always be glad to do- for one another & for the sake of their marriage. It was time to celebrate!

Camp Lucy Wedding - 25.jpg

Whim Hospitality created the most amazing combination of flowers for the bridal party & reception hall, which I absolutely LOVED photographing! The combination of colorful florals with cascading greenery lining the tables was so refreshing to photograph. The sequin table linens truly lit up the reception hall & florals brightened up the space beautifully.

Camp Lucy Wedding - 27.jpg
Camp Lucy Wedding - 28.jpg
Camp Lucy Wedding - 30.jpg

As the night went on, the couple danced their first dance cut their cake & ate it too! The maid of honor, Kendra, gave a beautiful speech & their guests truly enjoyed celebrating the newlyweds! At one point, they all lifted up Whitney & Sheldon in the air on their chairs and danced around them, another Jewish-rooted tradition called the ‘Horah’. It is a way for the guests to express their joy about the couple being celebrated & for the entertainment of the newly married couple - what a great tradition! Guests enjoyed their night & the pair were officially married!

Camp Lucy Wedding - 31.jpg

Whitney & Sheldon,

Your wedding was absolutely gorgeous & so many amazing memories were made on your special day with all of your friends and family. I am so grateful that you chose me to capture such a special day for the two of you. I hope you can look back on your photos and be reminded of the love you shared between the two of you on this special day! I am so grateful to have met you both & don’t ever want you to be strangers! I consider you both friends & hope to capture each chapter of your life as the years go on. Lake Austin Views - Engagement Session

Katelyn & John Engagement Session

Katelyn + John Engagement Collage2.jpg
Katelyn + John Engagement Collage1.jpg

Katelyn, how did you & John meet?

“John & I met in August of 2016 when I rushed in (late) to his Bible study with the Baptist Student Ministry. I had accidentally gone to the wrong coffee shop but finally got to Cafe Medici where the study was happening. John felt so bad and hoped that I would come back to their Bible study and, obviously, I did!

It took awhile for us  to become good friends. We slowly got to know each other through the BSM. We also ran into to each other a lot at Dance Across Texas where we began two-stepping together and learning how to dance together. In spending time with him and getting to know his heart and faith in God, my heart opened up to having feelings for him. He had caught the same feelings for me too which I am grateful for! My friend Shannon found out for me that he liked me (thank you Shannon!) and then we went on a mission trip to South Padre island together. I got to serve with him and watch him serve the Lord and that opened my heart even more.”

Katelyn + John Engagement Collage5.jpg

“When we got back we went dancing again and we arrived first. He very sweetly asked me out in Sign Language (because I love ASL) and I said yes! We went on a few dates and really got to know each other and where God was leading each of us. On April 24th, 2017 we officially started dating!

Throughout our dating relationship we have experienced overseas missions to Germany, the Middle East, and Vancouver where we were apart for 2 whole summers. The Lord really grew our relationship even when we were half a world away as we both encouraged each other and served Him. We also served together at the BSM and grew many friendships and family there as well. We have watched each other graduate from UT; John in 2018 and me in 2019. We have watched God bring us through many wonderful seasons and many hard seasons as well.

We have gone through John working at Capitol One in Plano and us being long distance for a year and a half. John has supported me as God lead to me start my wedding planning company in Austin. God also led us to Poland last year for a week to see what God may have in store there for the future.”

Katelyn + John Engagement Collage3.jpg
Katelyn + John Engagement Collage7.jpg
Katelyn + John Engagement Collage6.jpg

How did John pop the question?

In October, John surprised me by arriving in Austin while we were still long distance (and scared me really bad haha)! For two whole weeks he took me on many different dates to Mount Bonnell, the Capitol, our favorite winery The Austin Winery, and downtown Austin so he could surprise me. Then on October 13th, 2019 He took me to lunch after church and then back to Cafe Medici where we had met 2 1/2 years ago. We read through Ecclesiastes 3, my favorite passage in the Bible. Then he walked me to the UT fountain and then to the UT tower. He got down on one knee and gave me the biggest smile and asked me to marry him and I said absolutely YES!!! We were filled with so much excitement as we called all of our families to tell them. We then had an engagement party with our friends and had such a special time sharing this wonderful day with them!

Extra words from Katelyn -

“God continued to provide as John got a job offer in Austin 5 days after he proposed! For the first time in a year and a half we were not long distance anymore! God also provided him and apartment within 2 weeks of him getting the offer. He is living in the apartment that will be our future home once we are married. We are so grateful and filled with joy as the Lord provides for our future marriage! God has grown the both of us so much through all of the good and hard times and He will continue to walk with us as we become husband and wife! We can't wait for our family and friends to share our special day with us!”

I had such a great time together on your Engagement Session & I am so excited to be your wedding photographer at Camp Lucy in April! Teaghan & Zach

When I first met Teaghan, I distinctly remember her beaming smile & welcoming spirit. She was overflowing with excitement about her and Zach’s Engagement. As time passed and we talked about the details of her dream wedding, I realized we had been talking for almost an hour. We bonded over being Texas State University graduates and our appreciation for colorful wedding decor. After that initial meeting, I just knew we clicked & I was so grateful when they decided to choose me as their wedding photographer.

We met a few months later to photograph their Engagement session at La Estancia Bella and I was blown away at the venue grounds, including the longhorns on site as well as the owner, Lauren & her husband. Lauren & her husband were very welcoming & excited to share their passion for their wedding venue space with me.

The next wedding planning months were a bit of a struggle at times as Teaghan was actually working at the time in Pittsburgh. However, Teaghan proved to accomplish this wedding planning task well because when I arrived at the gorgeous venue on their wedding day, I was blown away with the bright pops of colors she had incorporated in to her details.

Teaghan had a fabulous backstory on where she came about finding her beautiful wedding day hair pin. She visited New York City with one of her best friends, Brita, and while they were there, they went to see Bernadette Peters’ final performance in Hello Dolly! They were thrilled to see a Broadway star perform, especially because they shared a love for theatre. The two became friends in their high school drama department, which also happens to be the place Teaghan & Zach met & began to fall in love. Anyways, while they were exploring the city the day before the show, the pair came across a Broadway fundraiser for the local animal shelter. At the fundraiser, they were selling accessory pieces from the show. This is where Teaghan came across the hair pin that Bernadette Peters wore in her May 20, 2018 performance of Hello Dolly! At the time, Zach and Teaghan were newly engaged and she had just picked out wedding dress. Teaghan and Brita thought it would be the perfect addition, and such a special way to incorporate their love for theatre into their special day.

Teaghan’s beautiful veil was a project she worked on diligently with her Nane - how amazing is that? That will forever be a memory they will both share in preparation for Teaghan’s wedding day. What a special bond that symbolizes.

There was not a dry eye in the room when Teaghan’s grandfather gave his speech. He unrolled a large printed image of Teaghan as a child sitting by a windowsill. He reminded the room that “this is my grand daughter” & explained the love he had for her. He told Zach to understand the responsibility it entails to becoming her husband & a reminder to love her & keep her safe forever. To that, Zach nodded and the sniffles throughout the reception hall was filled with people holding back tears as they witnessed the love her grandfather had just proclaimed for the now grown up little girl on her wedding night. I must admit, when her grandfather gave his speech, my eyes filled with tears and it moved me as well. My eyes were filled with tears behind my lens and I just knew that love was in that room, there is no denying that. So, cheers to love. Cheers to a love that lasts the test of time. Cheers, to Teaghan & Zach.

Teaghan & Zach,

It was such an honor being your wedding photographer. Cheers to your love story that grew into forever while at Texas State! Eat ‘em up cats! :) The two of you radiate so much positive energy & joy, it is such a blessing being around you both! From the moment we met, I knew we would be a great pair working together and I consider you both friends. I truly hope you can cherish these photos for years to come & hang these images in your home! When your marriage gets difficult, look back on this day & remember the love you had for one another. Together, you are much stronger, so don’t ever forget that! Don’t be strangers & keep in touch over the years. I’d love to keep up with y’all! Thank you for choosing me to be your wedding photographer.

If it is possible to have perfect weather on your wedding day, this wedding absolutely takes the cake! The sun was shining & the weather was so perfect. Also, Pearl Snap Hall is such a photographer’s dream to photograph. One of the most special moments of the night was during their first dance together as husband and wife. As they started dancing, their pup walked up to them and began circling them as they danced. He stood up on his hind legs at one point as if to say “I’m part of the family too”. All the guests began laughing and cheering for the three. I’ll always remember this moment as one of the cutest wedding moments to date.

Mount Bonnell & Mayfield Park Engagment Session - Matt & Sarah

Matt + Sarah Collage #2a.jpg

This session was so much fun with Sarah & Matt. We started our session at Mayfield Park & ended our session looking over Lake Austin at Mount Bonnell - Talk about a workout! They were troopers & seemed to climb all those stairs without a problem. The weather couldn’t have been any better & the sun was making their skin glow perfectly throughout our session. I am beyond excited to have Sarah & Matt as my clients & I am blessed to be able to be their wedding photographer this next October.

Q: Where did y’all meet?

A: “We met in Dallas after both moving here for work. I moved here after finishing my doctorate in Austin and Matt had just moved from Florida for a new job. Our first date we went to my favorite Tex Mex spot in Uptown, had our second date a few days later, then took our first trip to New York City together about a month after that! Ours was one of those “when you know, you know” type of relationships. It was fun, easy, and so exciting.”

Q: How did the Proposal go down?

A: “Matt planned a huge surprise for the engagement. He took me to an early birthday brunch, just us two and said we were going on a surprise trip afterwards. After brunch, he drove us back home, then we got in the elevator and went up to the sky view lounge on the top floor. We walked in and there were over 40 of our closest family and friends there to surprise me! His parents came in all the way from Florida and my entire family from Sweetwater and Austin! After he proposed our favorite song came on, and we spent the rest of the day celebrating with our family and friends.”

I am truly looking forward to being your wedding photographer & I cannot wait to capture all the amazing moments on your big day. I loved being able to see how you two interacted in such a carefree way with one another during our session. It is an honor to be your photographer & I look forward to the countdown to your WEDDING in October!

At-Home Birth - True Love

At-Home Birth - True Love

North San Antonio At-Home birth. I’d love to tell you the most amazing story of how my best friend from high school gave birth to her second child in the comfort of their own home. This miraculous day was covered with the Lord’s love & peace & it is my blessing and privilege to give you all the details. This one’s very real y’all. This is friendship. This is love. This is raw. This right here? This is life.

Dear Sister

Dear Sister

They say a sister is God’s proof we weren’t supposed to do life alone. A letter to my younger sister as she transitions to a college Freshman at Ole Miss. Bittersweet moment for our family, but one we are proud to support as she leaves the house on a new chapter of her life.
